Before I start my ranting on why people have an opinion on everything, I would like to put a disclaimer that I am not against freedom of speech. Everyone has the right to speak what is there in one’s mind. But, my problem is when half-baked, not-well-thought, not-crosschecked information start floating around the internet. Why? Just because people want to show the world that they too have an opinion. And, thus they react.
Internet, especially social media, is a dangerous place.
On the plus side, it gives us information on our fingertips. But, at the same time, it starts giving us fake, polarised, one-sided information too. We being the trustworthy and gullible race that we are, we quickly believe it and start telling it to others also.
I would like to tell you a story, when I learnt my lesson as a small kid, about not telling information to others that you have just heard from the grapevine.
When I was in school, a movie named – Kareeb was released. It starred a debutant actress – Neha. In that movie, she was playing the daughter of Moushumi Chatterjee. Somebody in my school told me that in real life also she is the daughter of Ms Chatterjee. I narrated the same fact very enthusiastically to my father who in turn told this to his colleagues. Later the information turned out to be false and I got a really good scolding from my father for spreading fake news.
After that, I never did it. I still don’t share random forwarded messages, videos on any social media platform. Instead, I just react on issues on my blog 😛
Jokes apart, what I am really trying to say is that please check the facts, read on the topic thoroughly, understand the big picture and the situation, have empathy with people who are actually facing the situation, before making lame jokes and memes about it.
So, this was me reacting on everyone else reactions 😛
We, at Patna Diaries, just hope that you just take a step back and think before you react, share and spread any information on the internet.
Happy Reacting 🙂
