On Wednesday morning, a large fire broke out at the Visvesvaraya Bhavan (also known as the technical secretariat) on the Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg in Patna, averting a terrible disaster.
While the fire caused significant damage to office documents and equipment, no one was killed. Several state government agencies, including the road and building construction departments, were housed in the structure.
It took approximately 90 minutes for firefighters to put out the fire. The fire department was able to rescue some trapped workers from the structure. The new building’s premises have been under construction from 2021.
Bihar state planning board, rural works department, road construction department, minor water resources department, and other departments are housed in the building.
The fire started about 7.30 a.m., according to Patan Sadar SDO Navin Kumar. When a security guard observed smoke coming from the building’s fifth story, he called the fire department.
More than six fire tenders arrived on the scene with a hydraulic ladder and put out the fire around 9 a.m.
According to the firefighters, if the fire had spread to the lower stories, it would have caused significant damage. The minister’s and secretaries’ official chambers, as well as the Bihar State Planning Board, are claimed to be completely destroyed.
